Promoting Island Sports

Promoting Island Sports

Baron Pierre de Coubertin, a French educator and historian and perhaps better known as the founder of the modern Olympic Games more than a century ago, once remarked that “For each individual, sport is a possible source for inner improvement”.  He further commented that “All sports must be treated on the basis of equality”.  Coubertin was a strong advocate for promoting sports for people from all ethnic persuasions and social classes.  CCCG President George Lai and CCCG Secretary General Richard Lai have carried on the legacies left by Coubertin and proactively promote sports, particularly soccer and tennis.  This year, President George Lai was featured on the global website of FIFA as shown in the above photograph.

CCCG Secretary General Richard Lai has served as the President of the Guam Football Association and has brought in millions of dollars to improve sport facilities on Guam.   Mr. Richard Lai has contributed so greatly to the betterment of island sports activities for youths of all ages.  His outstanding contributions to promoting sports through the Guam Football Association (GFA) were recently highlighted by the visit of FIFA President Joseph Blatter, during his official visit to Guam from Switzerland, who praised the extensive work accomplished by Mr. Richard Lai during the past decade as the President of GFA.
